Pertusaria sp. A
General description:
Pertusaria sp. A
Biology:
Description:
Thallus very thin, areolate.
Apothecia: immersed in the thallus with only the "ostiole" showing, 0.2(-0.25) mm diam. Disc becoming more exposed in mature apotheica; dark-brown, paler when wet
Spores: simple, braod ellipsoid, thin-walled, 15-17 x 9-10 µm. Chemistry: Thallus C+ red (in section)
Distribution:
One collection, on siliceous rock, from Mt Usbourne on the Falkland Islands.
Notes:
Characterized by the small size of the apothecia and ascospores, which would suggest a placement in Gyalectaria but the chemistry is anomalous for that genus.
