Thallus: foliose, rather small up to 7 cm diam., lobes dichotomously branched with sinuous axils
Upper Surface: yellowish-green, smooth and shiny
Soralia: mostly at lobe ends, capitate
Lower Surface: black with dense squarrose margins extending beyond the lobe margin
Chemistry: cortex with usnic acid; medulla with atranorin, norstictic and salazinic acids
Ecology and distribution.
A cosmopolitan species. Usually corticolous, bur occasionaly saxicolous.
Characterized by its yellowish coloration (usnic acid), terminal, capitate soralia, and dichotomous branching with sinuous axils.
