Ramalina terebrata
Ramalina terebrata Hook. f. & Taylor
Lond. J. Bot. 3: 654 (1844)
Description
Chemistry: usnic acid only by tlc.
Ecology and distribution.
Numerous collections from coastal rocks (rarely Hebe scrub) from the Falkland Islands, Isla de los Estados and the Brunswick Peninsula.
Notes:
Similar to R. laevigata but rarely abundantly fertile and with the pseudocyphellae becoming sorediate.
Ramalina flaccidissima Bory (1826) differs in having narrow, strap-like lobes but intermediates are frequent and, as both forms often occur on the same thallus, it is included in R. terebrata. The typification of R. flaccidissima has not been resolved and the type specimen was not available for loan. It is possible that R. flaccidissima is an earlier name for R. terebrata.
